About Us
Stealing Thunder is a small storytelling organisation with a big imagination. We run storytelling events for both grown ups and families in and around the South Lakes and Morecambe Bay, including regular performance nights, workshops, school and community projects and festivals.
Thanks to National Lottery funding, we will be running an exciting programme of storywalks, workshops and pop up events across Summer-Autumn 2024. We are looking for 2 enthusiastic young people to join our small team and help us deliver this project.
Requirements
- Aged 18-30
- Based in/near Cumbria
- Available for work July-October 2024
- Some experience or education in community arts, family events, performing arts, theatre, storytelling or outdoor events
- Interest in storytelling
- Confident engaging with people of all ages
Role details
2 training days and approximately 6-7 days in total from July-October 2024. Mostly, but not exclusively, weekends, including half and full days.
The role will be varied and include assisting with:
- Event planning and preparation
- Audience development and social media
- Marketing and publicity
- Site set up and decoration
- Front of house and public engagement
- Stewarding and assisting during walks, workshops and pop up events
You will receive training, skills development and mentoring with Stealing Thunder alongside hands-on experience and insight into many aspects of this storytelling project. There may also be opportunities for storytelling training and performances.
Locations
Event locations are tbc but may include Windermere, Kendal, Morecambe Bay, Ulverston, Winster Valley, Grange-over-Sands and Barrow-in-Furness. Having your own transport would be helpful.
Fee
£1000 including travel
Facilitators will be contracted on a self-employed basis and will need to hold their own DBS certificate. (We can help you with this.) You will be responsible for paying your own tax and NI.
